Angeleña is lone Kapampangan bet in Bb. Pilipinas

ANGELES CITY – This city and the province of Pampanga will have a lone representative in this year’s staging of Binibining Pilipinas, the country’s most prestigious beauty pageant.
Gina Joy Gasmen Howell, a 20-year-old lass from Barangay Mining here, is the lone candidate from Pampanga to the annual beauty tilt which winners will be crowned on Sunday night (April 15) in Quezon City.
Howell’s mother – Melinda Gasmen – was also a former resident of adjoining Mabalacat town.
“I am just glad to have come from a city and a province that both have produced national beauty titlists. I hope that people in these places I represent would be just as proud and I hope not to disappoint them,” Howell said.
Pampanga has produced beauty queens including Melanie Marquez, Miss International 1979; Maricel Morales, Mutya Ng Pilipinas 1995 and Semi-Finalist in the Miss Asia Pacific; Marilen Maristela, winner of Mutya Ng Pilipinas and Miss Asia Pacific 1996; and Juliann Savard, Miss Teen Philippines 2006, among others.
Howell is a BS Computer Science graduate at the Angeles University Foundation (AUF) where she was also a finalist in The Outstanding Student award.
Standing at 5’9”, Howell is the third tallest candidate among the 30 finalists that will vie for top plums that include Bb. Pilipinas-Universe, Bb. Pilipinas-International, and Bb. Pilipinas-Tourism.
Howell was crowned Reyna Ning Angeles in 2008 and was 3rd runner-up in last year’s Mutya Ning Angeles. She was also 2nd runner-up in the 2007 Miss University at the AUF.
