Pampanga gov eyes to put up PhilRice satellite campus

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO, Pampanga, April 1 – Governor Lilia Pineda reiterated Saturday that agriculture remains as among the top priorities of her administration considering most of the Kapampangans rely on it to support their families.
The governor even envisioned the establishment of Philippine Rice Research Institute (PhilRice) satellite campus at the Pampanga Agricultural College (PAC) in Magalang town.
During her recent visit at PhilRice, Pineda expressed interest of having a PhilRice satellite campus in Pampanga.
She told Central Luzon State University (CLSU) President Dr. Ruben Sevilleja that she is eyeing a 50-hectare land for her proposed PhilRice Campus at the PAC.
She expressed belief that with PhilRice campus in the province, the local farmers here will not be left behind in terms of agricultural breakthrough involving rice production, farm mechanization, among others.
She said the promotion of agricultural training and research is needed to further improve the practices of the farmers in the province.
Earlier, the provincial government and PAC entered into a memorandum of understanding (MOU) for the conversion of at least 120 hectares of land into an agro-eco-tourism farm. (PNA)
