Suspect killed in brief shootout

CAMP OLIVAS — One of two riding-in-tandem suspects was killed during a brief shootout with police at the San Agustin Bridge in Sta. Ana town last Wednesday.
Police investigation disclosed that the suspects, on board a red Euro motorcycle (without plates), held up a burger outlet, divesting service crew Paulo Ponce Magcalas, 19, of the day’s sales.
The suspects then fled toward Barangay San Agustin, according to reports.
The victim, upon seeing a mobile patrol unit in the area, immediately reported the incident, prompting the police to conduct a hot pursuit operation.
The suspects were spotted along Barangay San Agustin by the responding police. At this point, the back rider fired on the police, hitting the left front side of the patrol car.
The driver of the motorcycle then made an abrupt left turn and lost control of his vehicle, bumping into a wall.
A short exchange of gunfire ensued, resulting in the death of one of the suspects, while his cohort managed to elude arrest by firing at the policemen while escaping toward a nearby creek.
