Suspected human traffickers arrested in Pampanga airport

TWO persons, including a barangay captain in Calumpit, Bulacan, were arrested at the Diosdado Macapagal International Airport (DMIA) in Pampanga after they were suspected of being engaged in human trafficking.
The two female suspects were arrested by Bureau of Immigration (BI) officers last September 17 as they were about to leave for Singapore with three of their alleged victims. The pair was suspected of recruiting Filipino women to work as nightclub entertainers in Singapore.
The two women, together with two other suspects including a Singaporean, were later charged by the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) for violating the anti-human trafficking act before the prosecutor’s office in Angeles City.
“I have instructed our immigration officers at the DMIA to be doubly vigilant in view of reports that human trafficking syndicates have diverted their operations to Clark to evade our strict screening procedures at the airports in Manila,” Bureau of Immigration (BI) Commissioner Ricardo David Jr. said.
Authorities are now hunting down a Singaporean named Abdul Shariff, Cruz’s husband, who is the alleged contact of the victims’ employers in Singapore.
BI-DMIA head supervisor Carlos Capulong said the three women executed an affidavits stating that they were hired to work as nightclub guest relations officers and that their first month’s salaries would go to the recruiters as payment for processing their trip and employment.
