Cebu governor eyes Senate post

CLARK FREEPORT — Cebu Governor Gwendolyn Garcia has relayed her plan to run for senator during the Mothers’ Day celebration at the SM City Clark on Sunday.
“This is my first time to announce my political plan outside of Cebu and it is here in Pampanga,” Garcia said.
Calling for the province’s support to her slate under the One Cebu party, Garcia said she will institute creative and effective programs and bring them to the national level.
Garcia said Cebu’s 2.5 million voting population and her nine-year experience as governor will be of great help in her bid.
“I hope One Cebu will take my bid, a bid not just to put a Cebuana in the Senate but for all,” she said.
She also cited some of her agenda on water; power; health; education; agriculture; business; tourism, culture; environment; peace and order; and others.
Garcia said she formed an alliance with Vice President Jejomar Binay’s United Nationalist Alliance, a coalition of Partido Demokratiko Pilipino-Lakas ng Bayan, and former President Joseph Estrada and his Partido ng Masang Pilipino.
Angeles City Councilor Maricel Morales invited her to keynote the 5th Gawad sa Marangal at Ulirang Ina on Mothers’ Day at the SM City-Clark.
Morales honors and awards special mothers annually and this year she picked government employees as awardees saying “charity begins at home.”
Some 25 employees and department heads, including City Librarian Norma Razon, Social Welfare head Heidi Patio and Peso head Adelina Deocales, were awarded during the event.
