Free QC Vaccination Drive Urged

MANILA, Philippines – With flu-like symptoms prevalent in the rainy season, a Quezon City councilor wants the city government to provide a free annual flu vaccination for the city’s public school pupils and students.
Quezon City 3rd District Councilor Allan Benedict Reyes said vaccination will lessen the chances of the students of being afflicted with common diseases minimizes making them attend their classes regularly.
He noted that he had received complaints regarding some of the city’s schoolchildren obtained unsatisfactory grades as they are not able to attend their classes as frequently as possible.
With the yearly flu shots, Reyes hopes to limit the students’ number of absences due to the contagious respiratory disease that usually affect their class attendance during the rainy season.
Reyes said that a once in a year free vaccination drive will be an appropriate step to help the children comply with their educational requirements on time, and ease the financial burden of the parents.
He added that taking the necessary precautions to combat the threats of the possible spread of the anticipated respiratory disorder among residents is everyone’s concern.
Reyes noted that the city government has the mandate to protect and promote the right to health of the people, including that of the school children.
