Surigao officials to meet guv on quarry benchmarking

CITY OF SAN FERNADO — Top officials of the province of Surigao del Norte will meet with Governor Lilia Pineda today, Thursday, hoping to learn from the province’s best practices in its quarry collection and management.
Surigao del Norte Governor Sol Matugas, Vice Governor Arturo Egay Jr. and the board members and department heads of the Provincial Government of Surigao Del Norte will hold a benchmarking activity with the Province of Pampanga at the Executive House on the sand and gravel resources of the province.
Pineda, in an exclusive interview with Sun.Star Pampanga, said the activity is in recognition of the province’s competent and effective quarry management system that has been yielding enormous income for the province.
Recently, a Bukidnon delegation, led by Board Members Alfeo Baguio, chair of the environment committee and Ranulfo Pepito, chair of the committee on appropriations and ways and means lauded Pampanga for its effective quarry management.
The delegation had just finished benchmarking the best practices of the quarry industry here, particularly on collection that is now on the average of P20 million per month.
Pineda said the Province of Surigao del Norte wishes to learn management tips from Pampanga.
“They said that they also have their own quarry industry there but it has not been yielding enough income the way we do here in Pampanga. Aside from that, they would also like to learn how we manage our system of collection and how we weed out possible problems,” Pineda said.
Pineda said she will be meeting with the officials and have instructed all personnel involved in the quarry collection and management to prepare resource materials for the guests.
Pineda said that there will also be a short tour of the province’s district hospitals for possible benchmarking.
