Palace respects decision on Mike Arroyo’s travel bid

MALACANANG on Wednesday said it respects the decision of the anti-graft court Sandiganbayan allowing former First Gentleman Jose Miguel Arroyo to leave the country.
“We have no comment one way or the other since it was a decision made by the Sandiganbayan,” presidential spokesperson Edwin Lacierda said.
He added that the Palace has no problem with Arroyo’s travel for as long as he comply with the condition set by the anti-graft court.
“The Sandiganbayan based its decision on the commitment made by the former First Gentleman which includes the bond,” the Palace official said.
The Sandiganbayan 4th Division has granted the request of Arroyo to travel to Japan and Hong Kong from June 16 to 24.
He was required to settle a bond of P90,000, submit his bookings and tickets upon return and have personal appearance before the court within five days upon his return.
The former First Gentleman was invited by a local Filipino community in Hong Kong and he was also set to attend to some family business.
This is the second time the Sandiganbayan allowed Arroyo to leave the country since he was charged for the $329-million botched national broadband project with Chinese firm ZTE Corp. along with wife former President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.
