Truckers okay tax hike

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO – Members of the Pampanga Truck Owners Association (PTOA) agreed to the Capitol’s Tax Ordinance No. 5 or the law amending Tax Ordinance No. 4 passed last year.
PTOA president Arnold Liwanag and truck officials said Monday they were agreeable to the amendments that would contribute to the raging development of Pampanga’s quarry industry.
The tax ordinance clearly stipulates “the insertion and imposition of a weighing scale fee to haulers of sand and gravel and other quarry resources.”
The levied fee as noted in Ordinance No. 5 is P30 per truck for haulers with loads of 13.5 axle loads authorized by Republic Act 8794.
Fees, to ensure fool-proof processing, shall be paid in advance at the Provincial Treasurer’s Office.
“We are agreeable and we find no reason why this won’t merit approval. All along, we have been in accordance with the Provincial Government because the benefits are mutual,” said Liwanag.
“This is what we are actually been proactively doing. Continuing consultative dialogues with quarry operators, truckers and haulers make good for our successful quarry operations,” said Art Punsalan, chief of the province’s environment and natural resources department.
