DFA hailed for offices in malls

ANGELES CITY – Councilor Jay Sangil has lauded the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) for establishing satellite offices in various malls in Pampanga.

Sangil said DFA’s project will benefit local folk, bringing its operations closer to the people of Central and Northern Luzon.

“Applying for a passport becomes more convenient to our cabalens. This will also save them transportation costs and avoid any hassles of going to Metro Manila,” he stressed.

DFA-Angeles at MarQuee Mall is expected to open on August 1.

“It will take over the operations of the former Clark Satellite Office which is no longer serving the public and its operations temporarily absorbed by DFA San Fernando at Robinsons Starmills,” said Elmer Cato, DFA special assistant for special projects.

He added that DFA-Angeles is almost as big as the satellite office in the City of San Fernando.

Cato also said that DFA-Angeles offers the “same comfort and convenience as the two other facilities at the Pacific Mall in Cebu and in Robinsons Starmills.”

“DFA Angeles could accommodate 500 applicants everyday,” Cato said.

The project is part of the DFA’s public-private partnership with various malls in the country that included Ayala malls Incorporated, SM Prime Holdings, Pacific Mall Corporation, and Robinsons Land Corporation.

Aside from facilitating easy and convenient way of securing passports, Cato said the project will also save the government billions of pesos in operating costs.

Sangil said he will sponsor a resolution “recognizing the innovative efforts” of the DFA.

Ecija, DBP lumagda sa P453-M loan package

CABANATUAN CITY – Ang pamahalaang panlalawigan ng Nueva Ecija ay lumagda sa isang kasunduan sa Development Bank of the Philippines (DBP) para sa pagtatayo ng post-harvest facilities, kabilang ang P263-million na cold storage plant, na makatutulong sa may 8,000 pamilyang magsasaka.

Nilagdaan nitong Lunes ni Gov. Aurelio Umali ang kasunduan sa DBP na kinatawan nina DBP Executive Vice President Jesus Guevarra II, Senior Assistant Vice President Rebecca Reyes at Assistant Vice President Janette Lagarejos.

Kasama ni Umali sa panig ng kapitolyo sina 3rd Dist. Rep. Czarina Umali, Vice Gov. Jose Gay Padiernos at Provincial Treasurer Edilberto Pancho.

Ang P453-million loan package ay bahagi ng P1-billion Omnibus Credit Facility na pinagtibay ng Sangguniang Panlalawigan upang pondohan ang mga pangunahing proyekto ng Kapitolyo.

Bukod sa cold storage, ang salapi ay gagamitin din sa konstruksiyon ng P190-milyon palay-drying facilities na may probisyon sa paglikha ng uling at itatayo sa Palayan City. Ang utang ay babayaran sa loob ng 10 taon sa patubong anim na porsiyento kada taon, batay sa kasunduan.

Ayon kay Serafin Santos, provincial agriculturist, ang cold storage ay makapagpa-angat sa kabuhayan ng may 8,000 magsasaka sa mga lungsod ng Cabanatuan, Muñoz, Palayan at San Jose, gayundin sa mga bayan ng Bongabon, Gabaldon, Gen. Natividad, Laur, Llanera, Lupao, Rizal,Sto. Domingo at Talavera.

“What is good about this project is that farmers don’t have to pay a deposit when they store their produce.

They will only pay when they are going to sell their produce,” ayon kay Santos.

Ayon kay Guevarra, ang cold storage facility ang magigigng kauna-unahang pasilidad na may ganitong uri na pinatatakbo ng mga pamahalaang lokal.

Karaniwan din aniyang mga paaralan at potable water system ang pinaglalaanan ng kanilang pautang.

“But this project is unique because it is so pro-farmer,” ani Guevarra.

Sa kanyang speech ay sinabi ni Umali na ang cold storage plant ay naglalayong tulungan ang maliliit na magsasaka ng sibuyas.

Magbibigay ito ng proteksiyon, ani Umali, sa mga magsasaka mula sa mga higanteng mangangalakal at hindi masawatang smuggling ng sibuyas sa bansa.
