Group lauds town’s waste management program

ANGELES CITY — The Alliance for the Development of Central Luzon (ADCL) has lauded the “effective implementation” of solid waste management program by the Mexico town local government.
Sonny Dobles, president of ADCL, said the Municipal Government is following provisions of Republic Act 9003, otherwise known as the Ecological Solid Waste Management Act of 2000.

The municipality, under the leadership of Mayor Teddy Tumang, is maintaining a material recovery facility (MRF) or a transfer station, according to Dobles.
Dobles said the town’s residual waste is transferred to Kalangitan Sanitary Landfill in Capas, Tarlac, which is managed by the Metro Clark Waste Management Corporation.
Local government units pay the corporation P800 for every metric ton of garbage dumped into the landfill.
Inside its MRF, workers segregate bio-degradable from non-biodegradable waste.
The ADCL official said only Mexico town and Angeles City are disposing waste properly, based on environmental laws.
Dobles also condemn some Pampanga towns, including Guagua and Floridablanca, for maintaining open dumpsites, which is prohibited by law.
The Department of Environment and Natural Resources already ordered local government units all over the country to close down dumpsites.
