Housing authority sets P10-M for land development
ARAYAT — The National Housing Authority (NHA) has allocated P10 million for the victims of the 2009 landslide in Barangay San Juan Baño this town.
According to NHA Project Manager Ines Gonzales, the funds will be used for land development in the area where permanent shelters were constructed and recently awarded to beneficiaries by the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).

Gonzales said they have initially released at least P1.5 million to the local government here to jumpstart the development in the area.
“Nakikipagtulungan po tayo sa mga ahensiya ng pamahalaan para lalo pa nating mapagsilbihan ang ating mga kababayan na nangangailanan ng tulong (We are currently collaborating with government agencies to fast-track our services to the people in need),” she said.
The construction of the facilities and other amenities in the resettlement area will be implemented by this town’s Municipal Government.
“Ang munisipyo ng Arayat ay magbibigay din ng P2 milyon para sa initial development,” the NHA project manager said.
Governor Lilia Pineda told Gonzales to prioritize the installation of electric posts.
“Unahin na natin yung mga poste para yung mga pamilyang gusto ng lumipat ay mayroon na silang ilaw na gagamitin,” Pineda said.
It can be recalled that some 57 core shelters were awarded by the DSWD to landslide victims.
Maribel Malang Blanco, one of the division chiefs of the regional office of DSWD, said they are still set to construct additional 113 units to serve all other landslide victims.
Earlier, the Provincial Government led the construction of bunkhouses amounting to more than P5 million. This is intended to provide temporary shelters for the affected families.
Governor Pineda also previously asked the Provincial Board’s permission for the release of another P5 million in the form of cash-for-work to augment the personal needs of the families who worked for their own houses.
