LPA spotted in Central Luzon may become cyclone

MANILA — A low pressure area (LPA) spotted in Central Luzon has a chance to develop into a cyclone, the state weather bureau said on Wednesday.
Weather forecaster Aldczar Aurelio said that as of 2 a.m. Wednesday, the LPA was sighted at 1,030 kilometers east of Central Luzon, too far to affect weather conditions in Luzon.
He said the LPA has the possibility to turn into a tropical cyclone because it is still on the sea as it gains strength.
“Once the LPA develops into a tropical depression and enters the Philippine territory, it will be named ‘Ferdie,’ and will be the sixth weather disturbance to enter the country’s area of responsibility this year,” Aurelio said.
He said a weak southwest monsoon will affect Luzon.
Aurelio said temperature in Metro Manila may range from 24 to 32 degrees Celsius and it will experience mostly cloudy skies with scattered rainshowers.
In its advisory, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Service Administration (Pagasa) said Southern Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao will experience mostly cloudy skies with scattered rainshowers and thunderstorms becoming cloudy with widespread rains over the eastern section of Visayas and Mindanao that may trigger flashfloods and landslides.
“Residents living in low-lying areas and along mountain slopes are advised to be alert for possible occurrence of flashfloods and landslides,” Pagasa said.
The rest of Luzon will be partly cloudy to cloudy with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms.
Light to moderate winds blowing from the southwest to west will prevail throughout the archipelago and the coastal waters will be slight to moderate.
