Trader shot in heist alive and well

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO — The woman trader shot by robbers during an early afternoon heist is alive and well contrary to reports that she died while undergoing treatment at Makabali Medical Center last Tuesday.
Florenda Garcia, who runs GLM Hardware and Construction Supply at 82 Capitol Boulevard in Barangay Santo Niño with his husband, was shot on the left foot by one of two suspected thieves who fled on board a motorcycle after taking some P17,000 in cash and a P3,000 check during the broad daylight hold-up.
Garcia was discharged from the hospital Wednesday afternoon and dropped by the store before going home in Bulaklak Village.
“I am okay and safe now. Mas importante ang buhay kaysa pera,” she told Sun.Star Pampanga.
Garcia also thanked the police whom they said dropped by early morning on Monday to apologize for the report that the woman had died at the hospital.
“Humingi sila ng paunmahin at kami naman ay nagpasalamat din sa tulong nila. May mga tumatawag ng mabasa ang report pero sabi namin ay ligtas naman kami,” they said.
The couple corroborated the statements of City police chief Luisito Magnaye, who said during the investigation that one of the robbers, pulled the trigger of a suspected .45 caliber handgun.
“Iyun mismong suspect ang nagsabi sa mga biktima na nakalabit lang niya ang baril at tinamaan nga si Mrs. Garcia sa paa,” Magnaye said.
Follow up operations are being conducted, he said, to track down the suspects.
