Aviatour, she said, shouldered the return flight to Nepal of Tek Bahadur and Kshitiz’s uncle, belying claims that the company ignored the Chands while they were in Cebu.
Kshitiz was killed along with Bahinting and Local Government Secretary Jesse Robredo in a plane crash last August 18. Bahinting served as pilot of the Aviatour aircraft with Kshitiz as his co-pilot.
At the Mactan Cebu International Airport, shortly before departing for Nepal, Tek Bahadur complained to TV 5 and ABS-CBN that they learned about Kshitiz’s death only a day after the plane crash, and that it was a flight student and not an Aviatour official who relayed the news to them.
Ferol said that when Tek Bahadur and a relative arrived in Cebu, Aviatour explained to them that the flight school was unable to immediately inform the Chand family because the plane crash happened after office hours on a Saturday.
She said she was the one who asked a flight student, a friend of Kshitiz, to inform Tek Bahadur.
Captain Antonio Jureidini, Aviatour flight school director, said national media reports saying Bahinting made money on both Robredo and Kshitiz were inaccurate.
He said Kshitiz was not made to pay to be Bahinting’s co-pilot on the Piper Seneca plane.
“The truth was that Captain Jessup asked the private pilots who among them will accompany him in flying Robredo to Naga City. Chand immediately volunteered,” Jureidini said.
Ferol said Bahinting was allowed by law to take a co-pilot.
Tek Bahadur also told ABS-CBN’s TV Patrol that if Bahinting was found on the right seat of the plane’s cockpit, Kshitiz might have been the pilot during the flight. “My son was only a trainee,” he said.
Police Civil Aviation Security (PCAS)-Central Visayas Director Ritchie Posadas, however, presented a photograph showing Bahinting on the pilot’s seat of the aircraft as Kshitiz was still about to board it.
Posadas said they submitted the picture to the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group, which is investigating the plane crash with the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines. (EOB/Sun.Star Cebu)
