KBP-Pampanga conducts ‘Oplan Broadcastreeing’
BACOLOR, Pampanga—The local chapter of the Kapisanan ng mga Brodkaster ng Pilipinas (KBP) in Pampanga partnered anew with several government and non-government organizations for another round of tree-planting under its “Oplan: Broadcastreeing” project along the FVR Megadike bordering this town and the City of San Fernando.
PENRO chief, Leo Ignacio, said a two-kilometer stretch of the anti-lahar structure had been planted with more than 1,500 seedlings of Banaba in an effort to strengthen the dike’s slopes and contribute in the international movement against global warming.
Rommel Santiago, CENRO head, said the tree-planting activity will be the last for the year since the peak of the rainy season is about to end.
Santiago said the Bureau of Fire Protection has committed to water the newly-planted trees regularly to ensure their survival especially during the dry season.
Fernando “Perry” Pangan, station manager of DWRW 95.1-FM and KBP Pampanga Chapter Chairman together with CLTV 36, DWGV-FM 99.1 MHZ, DWGV-AM 792 KHZ and DWAU-FM 104.1 MHZ, said the event was made in coordination with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources, Community Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO) of the Environment Department; Department of Interior and Local Government, represented by provincial DILG head Angelina Blanco; Philippine National Police; Bureau of Fire Protection; Department of Public Works and Highways; Department of Education; Philippine Air Force; Local Government Units of Bacolor and City of San Fernando; Mabalacat City Councilor Rox Peña; Darius Hizon and Angie Hizon of Pampanga’s Best; and, several private firms such as the SM Prime Holdings, Inc., San Miguel Brewery.
Pangan reiterated that the tree-planting activity is also geared towards promoting the advocacy of propagating trees in accordance to the national government’s Executive Order No. 26 or the National Greening Program.
“Oplan Broadcastreeing” was conceptualized by the KBP during the incumbency of the late Cerge M. Remonde as its Chairman
