PAK warns members against bribery rumors

ANGELES CITY—The Partido Abe Kapampangan (PAK) has warned its leaders and members of attempts by its political opponents to sow intrigue to discord and destroy the unity of the party.
In a memorandum to its organizers, officers and members, PAK Secretary General Danilo de Austria Consumido said there are reports that political operators identified with Pampanga First District Representative Carmelo “Tarzan” Lazatin are spreading rumors that the party is giving out money to some of its leaders, causing others to ask why they have not received theirs.
“The party does not engage in political bribery and vote buying. We are fighting for principles, and [PAK] precisely wants to promote a new brand of politics where performance, integrity and concrete program of action are the basis for electing our leaders,” Consumido said.
The memorandum also mentioned of reports being spread out by Lazatin operatives that leaders and members of PAK are defecting to the Lazatin camp where they get paid.
Consumido said that the PAK was organized when Mayor Edgardo Pamintuan and Lazatin were still allies, thus, naturally, some of Lazatin’s people were among the original members of the party.
“When Lazatin suddenly declared his candidacy against Mayor Pamintuan, some of Lazatin’s people were caught in the middle of the situation. Some of them eventually rejoined their boss, while many remained with [PAK],” Consumido said.
According to him, there are now 35,000 members of PAK, mostly coming from the poor and middle class sectors.
“Our membership is more than 99 percent intact and growing in numbers by the day, and only a handful went to the other camp where they thought they can get paid,” Consumido said.
“Ang kalakhan ng mga opisyal at miyembro ay hindi mukhang pera. Hindi sila mga hayop na tulad ng kambing na binibilang ng ulo-ulo para bayaran ng kapiranggot,” he said adding that the number of defectors does not affect the party’s unity.
