Villar’s wife: Nothing wrong with early TV ads

MANILA — Former Las Piñas City Representative Cynthia Villar, wife of incumbent Senator Manny Villar, sees nothing wrong with television advertisements promoting the Villar Foundation just months before the 2013 senatorial elections.
“I don’t find anything wrong with it. We offer good projects and through the advertisements, many local government units have already partnered with us,” she told reporters as she filed her certificate of candidacy Tuesday morning.
Villar explained that the television ads was one way to introduce the Villar Foundation, which was also celebrating its 20th year anniversary this year.
Senator Villar, the wealthiest among the presidential candidates in the 2010 polls, was the biggest spender for television advertisements.
Candidates running for senator in the 2013 polls will start campaigning February next year.
Villar, who is running under the Liberal Party-led slate, filed her certificate of candidacy before the Commission on Elections (Comelec), with his husband senator and son, incumbent Las Pinas Representative Mark Villar. She is a member of the Nacionalista Party (NP), one of the political parties the LP will coalesce with for the 2013 midterm polls.
On Monday, Villar and former Senator Jamby Madrigal decided to bury the hatchet after exchanging harsh words over the controversy in the C-5 road project against Senator Villar.
Madrigal, a new member of LP, is also running for senator.
“There is no problem. We have moved on, it’s the secret of our success. We’ve moved on after certain points because there is no use crying over spilled milk,” Mrs. Villar said during the proclamation of LP candidates.
Madrigal also ran against Senator Villar in the 2010 elections but both lost to President Benigno Aquino III.
In an interview with reporters, Mrs. Villar also vowed to support the freedom of information (FOI) bill if she wins in the 2013 senatorial elections.
“I am supportive of the FOI bill,” she told reporters.
Just like his husband, the NP candidate is also against the controversial reproductive health bill.
