NLEX-SCTEX “UNDAS 2012″ assure convenient travel on All Saint’s Day

Motorist heading North for the Undas break can expect comfortable and convenient travel at the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX) and the Subic Clark Tarlac Expressway (SCTEX). The Metro Pacific Tollways Corporation (MPTC), Manila North Tollways Corporation (MNTC), and Tollways Management Corporation (TMC) will implement ‘NLEX-SCTEX Undas 2012’ to assist motorists and help ease the heavy traffic volume expected during the long break.
INTENSIFIED TRAFFIC MANAGEMENT
Traffic is expected to build up by 10-15% at the Balintawak, Mindanao Avenue and Dau Toll Plazas in the afternoon of October 31 to the early morning of November 1. On the other hand, traffic at the Mabalacat Toll Plaza of SCTEX and Bocaue Toll Plaza of NLEX are expected to become heavier as motorists go back to Metro Manila on November 3 and 4.In response to the expected traffic increase NLEX-SCTEX will beef up its manpower. Ambulant tellers will be on standby at the Balintawak, Mindanao Avenue and Dau Toll Plazas on October 31 and November 1 and at the Bocaue Toll Plaza on November 3 and 4.
Spare lanes will be opened on October 31 and November 1 at Dau and on November 3 and 4 at the Bocaue toll plaza or as necessary. Cash paying motorists using Class 1 vehicles will be transacted in these five spare lanes.Additional traffic management and security personnel will also be deployed from October 25 to November 5 to ensure safety and security of the motorists.
At SCTEX, traffic build up going to the provinces is expected at Tarlac Exit, San Miguel Exit and Tipo Exit starting also on October 31. Manual and counter flow lanes will be placed at San Miguel and Tarlac Exit respectively to accommodate the high volume of traffic. While back to manila, traffic build up is expected on November 3 and 4 at mabalacat Interchange of SCTEX. Motorists can expect sufficient number of personnel and equipment to minimize delay at the plaza and maintain the best level of service possible. There will be manual toll booths ready to be set up at the Mabalacat Toll Plaza.
Roadwork in the expressways will be suspended from October 28 to November 4 in both NLEX and SCTEX to give way to the expected number of motorists. Sufficient manpower and equipment will be deployed by Traffic and Toll operations to ensure fast and smooth travel of motorists going to Tarlac, Pampanga, Bataan and Subic Bay. NEW AND UPGRADED TRAFFIC CONTROL ROOM
The NLEX Traffic Control Room (TCR) is ‘the eyes and ears’ of the expressway. Through the Traffic Control Room, motorist in need of help are easily located and assisted. This coming All Saints Day, NLEX will also unveil its upgraded Traffic Control Room to respond to the latest trends in Intelligent Transport Systems. The TCR is now equipped with a video wall composed of 20 High Definition Flat Panel Monitors which enable traffic personnel to view multiple locations anytime. The NLEX is also taking advantage of its digital IP Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) System with the installation of additional High-Definition CCTV Cameras. More locations will be covered. Thus, responding to emergency situations will be easier.
LAKBAY NORTE PASS (Pre paid Toll Cards)
Motorists driving Class 1 vehicles (up to 7 feet height and with 2 axles like cars and passenger vans) may avail of the Lakbay Norte Pass. It is a prepaid toll card available to Class 1 vehicles going to Dau, Tarlac and Subic and those travelling back to Manila. This magnetic swipe card can be used from October 31 to November 4, 2012.
Motorists using the Lakbay Norte Pass will not need to pay cash to the toll teller. This will speed up transactions in toll plazas during the All Saints Day break. The one way trip toll value of the prepaid cards are as follows: P218 for vehicles traveling NLEX Balintawak/Mindanao Avenue to Dau or vice versa and P408 for NLEX Balintawak/Mindanao Avenue to Subic or vice versa. A dedicated lane will be provided to Lakbay Norte Pass holders at the Balintawak, Mindanao Avenue, Dau, Bocaue Tarlac and Subic toll gates.
The Lakbay Norte Pass can be bought at the NLEX Customer Service Centers in Balintawak, Valenzuela, Bocaue, Tabang and San Fernando and Shell stations in A. Bonifacio, Mindanao Avenue, Barangay Bahay Toro and Santolan, Quezon City, Buendia, Makati and at the SBMA Tipo Total Gas station.
NLigtas TRAVEL TIME ADVISORY
Travel information regarding the latest traffic situation and other travel advisories will be available online through the North Luzon Integrated Guide and Travel Advisory System or NLigtas.NLigtas will provide the public an access to the real-time automated traffic updates and road conditions along the NLEX 24/7 from the data derived from the NLEX road sensors. The NLigtas application includes a Travel Time Advisory from one point to any point in NLEX.
To receive these live advisories, motorists can visit the TMC website www.tollways.net.ph. The same information is also posted on NLEX Facebook page Travel on Great Roads, and in the Twitter account NLEXTraffic. Traffic updates will also be posted in all NLEX Variable Message Signs or will be available by calling the NLEX Hotline (02) 3-5000.
The TMC Website www.tollways.net.ph has been configured to be accessible also through the Smartphones.
SAFE TRIP MO SAGOT KO MOTORIST ASSISTANCE PROGRAM
NLEX-SCTEX will also implement its motorists assistance program ‘Safe trip Mo, Sagot Ko’ Motorists Assistance Program. Like in previous holidays, the program will provide free first aid treatments and basic mechanic services to motorists in designated locations along NLEX and SCTEX.
This program will run from October 31 to November 4. The Safe Trip Mo, Sagot Ko Assistance Centers can be found in all nine fuel stations in NLEX, one fuel station in SFEX and two camp sites in SCTEX located along Km. 76 (Pitabunan Overpass, Tarlac bound) and Km. 21 (Rest Area, Subic bound).Other participating companies in this program are Sun Cellular, Maynilad Water, Petron, Kentucky Fried Chicken and Philippine National Red Cross.
