Senator leads 2012 Most Outstanding Kapampangan honorees

SAN FERNANDO CITY, Pampanga, Dec 17 (PIA) — Senator Manuel Villar led this year’s roster of winners of the Most Outstanding Kapampangan Awards (MOKA).

Villar received his MOKA for Business and Entrepreneurship during the recognition night at the Bren Z. Guaio Convention Center which coincided with the 441st founding anniversary celebration of Pampanga.

“I have always been proud of my Kapampangan lineage. That is why I make it a point to bring something back to the province whenever I can as a legislator and also as chairman of the Villar foundation,” the two-term senator said.

It was not widely-known that Villar is a true-blooded Kapampangan although he was born in Moriones, Tondo.

His maternal grandfather, Nicolas David Bamba, came from Purok Bamba, Barangay San Nicolas in Sasmuan town.

His mother, Curita Bamba, lived in Orani, Bataan, which was originally part of Pampanga.

Known by his moniker “Mr. Sipag at Tiyaga,” Villar’s rags-to-riches story inspired many entrepreneurs.

As a young boy, he sold seafood at the Divisoria market.

Villar started his real estate business with a capital of only P10,000 and delivered sand and gravel to construction sites.

His company, Vista Land, grew to become the largest house-building company in the country today.

According to the Arts, Culture and Tourism Office of Pampanga (ACTOP), MOKA aims to recognize individuals who have excelled in their respective endeavors or professions and have brought pride to the Kapampangan race.

Nominees must be a Kapampangan either by blood which means at least one of the parents is Kapampangan or must be born in any of the towns or cities of Pampanga.

Also this year’s recipients are PSupt. Bernardo Perez (Law Enforcement), Felix Tienzo (Social Service), Patrick Cura (Youth Service), Leonardo Canlas (Education), Norman de Jesus (Agriculture), Fr. Victor Nicomedes Nicdao (Religion), Lillian Borromeo (Culture), John Manalili (Mass Media), Catalina Bagasina (Government Service), Allan Pineda popularly known as Apl.de.Ap (Arts), and Maria Miguelita Santiago as Outstanding Honorary Kapampangan.

Outstanding Honorary Kapampangan Award is bestowed to non-Kapampangans who rendered exemplary service to the province of Pampanga.

Awardees were chosen through a rigid selection process by a committee comprised of prominent individuals.

To date, more than 400 individuals have been awarded the MOKA trophy.
