Early registration for public schools set on January 26

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO–An early registration day on January 26 has been declared by the Department of Education (DepEd) for elementary and secondary public schools across the nation for the school year 2013-2014.
Via DepeEd order 89 series of 2012, this undertaking is “to achieve the millennium development goals and the objectives of education for all.”
The early registration date is aimed to ensure the enrolment of all five-and-six-year old children for this coming school year in Kindergarten and Grade I; to guarantee enrolment of the out-of-school children (OSC) and the out-of-school-youth (OSY) from the disadvantaged groups for the indigenous people; and, street children ages 5-18 years old in their preferred education delivery system, either formal through alternative delivery mode or alternative learning system.
Moreover, it is meant to establish census of the OSC and OSY with disabilities ages 5-18 years old to provide them with appropriate education interventions; enable the different levels of the Department to prepare the Three Year Catch-Up Plan in Basic Education from SY 2012-2013 to SY 2013-2014 in order to accommodate the registered learners.
The early registration is also hoped to enable DepEd in collaboration with the different sectors of the society including the parents-teachers association, to make necessary preparations and to address potential resource needs in time for the opening classes in June, and to support the schools in their effort to provide education interventions to prevent pupils and students from dropping out from school.
Meanwhile, parents who are enrolling their child in the kindergarten, and Grade 1 level and those who have not undergone schooling shall bring their son’s birth certificate. Children born on October 31, 2008 or earlier are eligible to enrol in Kindergarten, and those born in October 2007, enrolment in Grade 1, regardless if they have finished Kindergarten or not.
The school submission and coordination of registration data shall follow from January 28 to February 1, while the planning to address resource gaps and implementation of different program interventions is set from February 4 until March 1. ● Joelyn G. Baluyut
