Koreans revalidate P4.6-B flood control project

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO – A group of Korean consultants had started the revalidation of the proposed P4.6-billion flood control project in low-lying areas in the fourth district of Pampanga.

The foreign consultants hired by Korea Eximbank were led by Park Duck Hee, project manager; Kim Zun Seok and Lee Dong Hun, deputy directors; Taedong Park, president: overseas business division; Jean Young Heo, deputy general manager; and directors Yong Hoom Choz, Jang Jzongho and Kim Dohoon.

The revalidation initiative started Friday after the Koreans’ meeting with Governor Lilia Pineda. It would run for six months.

Based on the feasibility study, the project cost would be P4,655,040,000 and will be covering the municipalities of Sto. Tomas, San Simon, Minalin, Macabebe and Masantol.

The loan component of the proposed project will reach to P3,899,710,000. This will be funded by Korea-Economic Development Cooperation Fund.

The loans will be used for civil works, consultancy services (detailed engineering, construction supervision), service charge and contingencies.

The counterpart of the Government of the Philippines will reach to P755,330,000 and this will be utilized for the administrative cost, road right of way acquisition, local tax provision and contingencies.

Engr. Lita Manalo, of the Public Works department who accompanied the Korean consultants, said the proposed flood control measures is aimed at mitigating flood damage to the province, particularly in the said municipalities, by increasing waterways capacity of the Third River, Eastern Branch River, Caduang Tete and Sapang Maragul River.

She said the project will also improve education and sanitary condition of 74 school sites in the five municipalities, adding that this would generate employment of local folks within the vicinity of the project.
