US air transport expert to share views in confab

International expert on aerotropolis to speak at Clark Aviation Conference Greg Lindsay, co-author of Aerotropolis: The Way We’ll Live Next, will visit the Philippines in February to speak at the Clark Aviation Conference 2013 in Clark Freeport Zone, Pampanga.
Lindsay is an American journalist, speaker and consultant who writes frequently about the interconnection between transportation, urbanization and globalization.
His best-selling book, Aerotropolis: The Way We’ll Live Next, proposes that while cities of old grew around harbors or railroad terminals, today’s mega cities are springing around airports, as air travel becomes the preferred mode of transportation in an increasingly connected and fast-paced world.
A recognized expert on the future of travel, technology and urbanism, Lindsay will discuss in detail at the Clark Aviation Conference the crucial role that air travel is playing in global trade and urbanization.
The conference, being organized by Clark International Airport Corp (CIAC) in partnership with Global Gateway Logistics City, takes place Feb. 21 to 22 at the Widus Convention Center in Clark Freeport Zone. The event also coincides with the popular annual Hot Air Balloon Fiesta.
Themed “The Case for Asia’s Next Aerotropolis,” the two-day conference will look at the need to develop Clark into a regional aerotropolis as Asia steadily takes a prominent position in a changing global economic order.
“The event will underscore Clark International Airport’s critical role in driving economic expansion not just in the Philippines but also in the region. It will also identify policies and projects designed to attract airport-related businesses and investments to the freeport zone. More important, the conference is a call for the full development of Clark International Airport as an aviation nerve center in light of the economic boom in Asia,” said CIAC president and CEO Victor Jose Luciano.
Heads of government agencies — including the trade, tourism and transportation and communications departments as well as the Bases Conversion and Development Authority — and private-sector representatives will hold panel discussions on Clark’s prospects as an aviation and investment destination in Asia, even as they examine pressing aviation and tourism concerns and propose sustainable and long-term solutions.
The convention targets international investors, logistics and supply chain executives, tourism stakeholders, airline officials, import and export managers, and members of the academe. They are expected to gain insights into Clark’s potentials as an aviation and investment destination in Asia and understand better its increasing role in national and regional development.
