Quarry collections reach P26 million

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO — Quarry revenues in 2013 opened P6-million higher than collections the same month in 2011 when it was posted at P20.3 million, and a bit more than the income of P25.8 million in January 2012 as it was recorded at P26.2 million this month.
Documents obtained from the Provincial Government Environment and Natural Resources Office (Penro) showed that the 30-day collection of P26,215,000 last January — which brought total revenues from quarry operations to P675,997,500 — was a clear indication of the growing demand of Pampanga’s quarry materials.
“Significant factors in the upward trend of our quarry revenues are the increase in our GDP or gross domestic product, plus the high demand for our quarry materials in more projects. There is a growing need for filling materials as the National Government embarks with more projects and infrastructure,” Penro head Engr. Art Punsalan said.
He said Pampanga’s quarry operators and truckers have been addressing the needs head-on, as business opportunities continue to open up for the industry.
Recently, Governor Lilia Pineda and Vice Governor Joseller “Yeng” Guiao urged stakeholders to explore other avenues to further boost revenues as a preparation to computerization of collections and institutionalization of operations that will increase efficiently and eradicate “intentional and incidental” human errors and other factors.
“Actually, we are now looking at the international market to further boost our quarry revenues. We have received proposals from China, Guam and Singapore with the intent of importing to their countries are quarry materials for filling requirements. It will be a major breakthrough in the industry once we start exporting our quarry materials because it will mean bigger benefits to Kapampangans. These are opportunities we are looking on as we embark on computerizing quarry operations and hit our target of P770 million or more in June when Vice-Governor Yeng and Governor Pineda end their terms,” concluded Punsalan.
