Suspect in Mexico rape-slay set for inquest

THE suspect in the killing of seven-year-old Ryza Mae Pagcu Gomez in Barangay Tangle, Mexico town is set for preliminary investigation on February 7.
Pampanga provincial police director R’Win Pagkalinawan said on Wednesday that the police now have witnesses who will testify against the suspect, who allegedly raped and then set on fire the victim last January 20.
“We now have witnesses who can account to the details of the crime and as to who perpetrated it. The suspect is set for a PI (preliminary investigation) on February 7. By then, we could move ahead with the proper charges,” Superintendent Pagkalinawan said.
The police chief clarified that the lone suspect, not three as earlier reported by police, was recently released before the investigation, saying that, “If he does not show up at the inquest proceedings, then the proper court will issue the necessary warrant of arrest.”
The victim’s body, which was found in a grassy area along Fuschia Street, was identified by her grandmother, Adoracion Pagcu Tolentino.
The victim was last seen playing at the clubhouse of the village with her friends around 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. the day of the incident.
Governor Lilia Pineda, who pledged P300,000 for the arrest of the suspect, branded the crime as gruesome.
“I urge all the barangay officials there to do whatever they have to do to bring to justice the suspect. This is a most gruesome crime that could only be committed by addicts,” she said.
Beth Baybayin, Provincial Social and Welfare Development officer, said they asked the Child Abuse Prevention and Intervention Network to submit immediately its assessment report on the case.
