2-M Kapampangans now Philhealth members

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO–Philippine Health Insurance Corp. (Philhealth) manager Arsenia Torres announced that this province has the highest number of Philhealth members and beneficiaries in Central Luzon for the year 2012.
Based on the data of the agency, 86 percent of the 2.4 million population in the province were enrolled to Philhealth, meaning 2,060,285 Kapampangans have their Philhealth cards making Pampanga the number one in health insurance followed by Bataan and Tarlac with 82 percent; Zambales, 78 percent; Bulacan, 76 percent; Nueva Ecija, 59 percent; and, Aurora with only 55 percent.
Torres noted the partnership existing between the provincial government, local government units and Philhealth for the awareness of the people to the advantage of having health insurance.
She added 633, 825 of the Philhealth members in the province were sponsored by LGUs, provincial and national government and 1.4 million are regular payers.
“Health has been the top priority of local leaders in Pampanga that enable Philhealth to penetrate and enroll the people up to the grassroots level,” Torres said.
Gov. Lilia Pineda continuously thanked President Benigno S. Aquino III for giving Philhealth cards to 49,000 Kapampangan through the National Household Targeting System (NHTS) of the Department of Social Welfare and Development. This is in addition to the 15,560 beneficiaries of the Philhealth accreditation of provincial government wherein P19 million were used to pay the premium for two years.
Center for Health Development III Assistant Regional Director Ruby Constantino said the health insurance will be futile without the medical institutions that will cater to the benefits provided to the members and this is where the Department of Health and the government come in.
“DOH assists in providing facilities and equipment to our government-owned hospitals to make sure that they will be Philhealth accredited,” said Constantino.
Meanwhile, Gov. Pineda assured the public that the provincial hospital and all 11 district hospitals were Philhealth accredited and ready to serve all patients because the provincial government under her administration spent P210 million for the improvement and rehabilitation of the government hospitals in the province. •Jenna Lumbang
