CIDG men in ‘hot-water’ for raiding STL stations

CAMP OLIVAS, Pampanga – The Philippine National Police-Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) in Central Luzon is in “hot water” for their questionable raids on two legitimate substations of Small Town Lottery (STL) in Balanga, Bataan and Barangay Balibago in Angeles City last February 28 and March 2, respectively.
Lawyer Francisco Macalino III, counsel for Sunset Bay Research and Marketing Corporation in Bataan and Lake Tahoe Gaming and Amusement Corporation in Angeles City, is set to file administrative and criminal charges in court against CIDG operatives who raided the two Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) STL substations.
Macalino decried the raids as “tantamount to brazen harassment of legally operating businesses.”
He said despite the clear PCSO signage identifying the substations and the presence of uniformed ID-bearing STL personnel, and even with the presentation of PCSO Deed of Authority and certifications from the PCSO, the raiders proceeded to arrest the firms’ personnel resulting to the loss of undetermined amounts of cash collections and confusion and disruption in their operation.
Macalino will also file in court charges of illegal arrest and detention of STL personnel against the raiding team.
He said 13 employees and sales supervisors (cabos) were arrested in Bataan while 12 were detained in Angeles City. ●Rudy J. Abular
