Pelayo to push for countryside development

CANDABA — Fourth district congressional candidate Jerry Pelayo said Wednesday that he would push for countryside development through comprehensive livelihood initiatives in eight municipalities adjacent to the Pampanga River.
“Kailangan nating i-maximize ang potential ng bawat lugar sa pamamagitan ang komprehensibong livelihood programs. Iyong mga produkto natin ay ibebenta natin sa mga lugar na mangangailangan dito,” he told Sun.Star Pampanga in an exclusive interview.
Pelayo, who is also the mayor of Candaba, cited as an example this town, which has enough supply of palay while coastal villages in some towns are in need of it.
“In fact, the people are buying it more than the allowable market price. There are also towns whose main products are sea foods but we don’t have it Candaba,” Pelayo said.
Pelayo said the development can be achieved through the establishment of “bagsakan centers” in the fourth district of the province and with the mobilization of various sectors in the localities.
“Ang gagawin natin ay dadalhin na natin ang bigas sa mga coastal communities at iyong mga produkto naman nila ay ibebenta natin sa ibang mga lugar. Hindi na natin pang kailangang bumili sa labas ng distrito dahil nandito na lahat. Mabibigyan pa natin ng oportunidad ang ating mga kababayan,” he said.
Pelayo pointed out that local economy within the district will be boosted as a result of continuing commercial activities in major “bagsakan centers.”
He said he would work for the provision of additional capital in coordination with other concerned government agencies for them to get over the cycle of business activities, which may eventually lead to sustainable progress and development.
