Rodriguez for empowerment of teachers

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO — “We must be an instrument to raise the quality of living of the citizens. We should provide education for them to achieve that. San Fernando will not be San Fernando and the transformation will not be like this without our teachers.”
So stressed Mayor Oscar Rodriguez recently as he spoke before the seminar of district three teachers on “Strategies for Attaining Reading Standards for the K-12 Curriculum” held last Friday at Heroes Hall in this city, where he also manifested his support for the “empowerment of educators.”
The whole-day training is a corporate social responsibility program of Saint Mary’s Publishing Corporation or SMPC, where the changes in the new curriculum and the challenges the teachers are facing in teaching in elementary and secondary levels was tackled.
The program is part of the ongoing initiatives to improve the quality of instruction among public schools in the city, education among the top priorities of the Rodriguez administration. In 2007, the city government partnered with the Asian Institute of Management (AIM) to train school heads.
Rodriguez was supported in the advocacy by SMPC president Jerry Catabijan, who said that he “believes that the new K-12 Curriculum will raise the learning level of the students that would help improve the economic, political and social status of the city.”
“I am happy to hear that our good Mayor is very particular on the development of the teachers themselves and the principals,” said Catabijan, an AIM graduate himself.
“That’s very good, may education management na ini-impart sa AIM. I know for one, because I’m a graduate of that school. Isang magandang magandang opportunity sa kahit na kaninong educator na mabigyan ng mga ganung training and opportunities na mapadala sila sa AIM for their educational management program,” he added.
The K-12 Program covers Kindergarten and 12 years of basic education (six years of primary education, four years of Junior High School, and two years of Senior High School [SHS]) to provide sufficient time for mastery of concepts and skills, develop lifelong learners, and prepare graduates for tertiary education, middle-level skills development, employment, and entrepreneurship.
