Governor supports SM mall job fairs

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO–Gov. Lilia Pineda on Wednesday vowed to infuse an additional P100 million for the provincial government’s loan assistance livelihood program in a bid to provide more jobs in Pampanga.

Pineda made the announcement in her speech during the “Labor Day Job and Livelihood Fair” at the SM City Pampanga.

“The people of Pampanga should not lose hope. We and our private partners will find ways to help more people get jobs and livelihood opportunities,” said Pineda, who was accompanied by Board Member Monz Laus in the job fair opening.

Pineda and the provincial board headed by Vice Gov. Joseller Guiao released at least P42 million for the Negosyo king Panyulung Program (NPP). The program which started in 2010 benefited 5,300 people, 552 of whom are from this town.

“With fairs like this and a bigger NPP budget, we can certainly drastically cut unemployment in Pampanga,” said Pineda.

Pineda expressed gratitude to the SM officials led by Bien Mateo, SM Supermalls Vice President for Operations North Luzon 2, for the job fair that was started by the Sy-owned malls six years ago.

Mateo, who handles 11 SM malls, said they helped some 17,000 people get directly hired in 2012 job fair. He added that the job fair was simultaneously held in the 45 SM malls in the country.

“Our target is to surpass the number of our directly hired workers and the total number of people served for 2013,” said Mateo. He disclosed they had served more than 50,000 job seekers last year.

“Our commitment in helping the community is more effective when the leaders such as the Pampanga governor are cooperative,” he said.

On the same day, SM City Clark (SMCC) also held a one day job fair along with 50 companies offering jobs from local to overseas employment.
SMCC Assistant Mall Manager Mark Carlo Herrera led the ribbon cutting ceremonies during the job fair.

Herrera congratulated fresh graduates and expressed hopes that they find jobs that will suit their skills.
SMCC tenants and affiliates like The SM Store and SM Supermarket also offered job opportunities for applicants.
