Sen. Legarda to push for ‘Pantawid Tuition’ program

ANGELES CITY–Team PNoy senatorial bet Loren Legarda plans to push for a program that will ensure one college graduate in every Filipino family.
Under her proposal “Pantawid Tuition” program, Legarda said she will ensure one college graduate in every poor family in the country.

“Bawat isa sa 3.8 million poorest families sa bansa ay magkakaroon na isa man lang na college scholar. Sa mga ayaw magkolehiyo dahil hindi nila hilig, TESDA (Technical Education and Skills Development Authority) course ang ating ibibigay na scholarship,” Legarda said during her visit here on Wednesday.

Legarda said she believes that education is the primary solution to poverty.

“I will see to it that this proposal will be a priority during the opening of the Senate after elections,” Legarda said.

Legarda clarified that her proposal is different from the purpose of the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program or 4Ps of the Aquino administration.
“In the 4Ps program, the government allocates about P1, 400 in every Filipino family so they can send their children to elementary and high school,” Legarda said.
