Kumon, GEP: Maximizing a Child’s Potential
Friday, July 26, 2013
The first of two runs in the province, the next KPEPS seminar will be held in SM City Iloilo on August 3, Saturday, according to Kumon officials.
In Kumon Philippines’ effort to reach parents from the different parts of the country, they had decided to hold the seminar outside Metro Manila. KPEPS is usually being held in Makati, Pasay, Las Pifias, and just last year in Quezon City.
The Kumon Philippines’ Education and Parenting Seminar (KPEPS) series aims to educate and enlighten parents on the different topics that will aid in raising a responsible and happy child.
In this 6th year of KPEPS, Kumon Philippines has chosen to present Good Enough Parenting (GEP), because it shares a lot of views with GEP about parental role and responsibilities.
Good Enough Parenting
While no one’s parenting can ever be perfect, “Good Enough Parenting” can help show parents through a Movie Therapy, how to meet these core emotional needs, and provide parenting that is “good enough” to prevent “life traps” from developing in their children.
“In a world of too much information, “Good Enough Parenting” uses movies to teach parents how to meet core needs, and, at the same time, how to avoid passing down their own dysfunctional behaviors,” said Dr Jeffrey Young, of the Dept. of Psychiatry at the Columbia University, USA.
About Kumon
Kumon Philippines uses education as a vessel for nation-building, thus helping develop children into contributing members of community.
One of the main factors why Kumon students succeed in their Kumon journey is the involvement of parents. But even outside of Kumon, Kumon Philippines would like to empower the parents more in nurturing their children. Kumon seeks to partner with parents in the serious responsibility of raising their children.
Kumon, an after-school supplemental learning program, considers the individual needs of each student with academic advancement through self-learning as its main goal.
The Kumon Method makes use of worksheets that have been designed to enable the children to progress in small steps and study at the level most suitable for their academic ability.
The Kumon Math and Reading Programs equip each child with the necessary skills to reach his/her potential. Through the daily study of worksheets, the child acquires strong academic skills and solid foundations to prepare him/her for life.
Benefits
Kumon develops students’ self-learning ability. In the beginning, students study materials that they have already encountered. As they master these topics, they will gain the confidence and motivation to take on rfew challenges. By allowing them to study at their own pace and ‘just-right’ level, children can advance beyond their school grade level with minimal supervision and instruction. When students have the ability to self-learn, they will have the capacity to learn even advanced materials; thus improve their school grade and enjoy their school life to the fullest.
Aside from academic abilities that students develop through Kumon, they also acquire qualities such as independence, discipline, confidence, and good learning habits. This balanced combination of academic and life skills leads to improved grades in school.
Kumon, which is available in 47 countries and regions around the world, has over around 57,000 students in the Philippines where are more than 250 Kumon Centers. Kumon Philippines’ head office is in Makati, and with the addition of Kumon offices in Quezon City and Cebu, further expansion is expected.
Sponsors for the event include Faber Castell, Guard Insect Repellent, Universal Robina Corporation (URC), Nissin Pasta Express and Piattos Multigrain, while the event was managed by Alegre Events.

With new golf courses springing up in and around Clark Philippines and an ever-increasing patronage by tourists from neighboring South Korea, Clark Freeport is short on hotel accommodation.
Even with the addition of 27 holes in 2009 and 2010, there is an acute shortage golf tee times for at least 5-6 months each year. Local players compete with frustrated (golf) tourists from Korea and China for tee times. Unfortunately Clark Philippines doesn’t have the luxury of vast tracts of land suitable for this type of development.
Mimosa offers 36 holes of championship golf, visitors can pay and play, busy during the weekends but not that difficult to get on or join up with a group to form a 4-ball. The new FAKCC offers 27 holes of world-class golf.
