Carjackers’ new modus bared

CAMP OLIVAS, Pampanga – Chief Supt. Edgardo T. Ladao, Police Regional Office 3 director, yesterday warned motorists and owners of high-end vehicles to be alert against the new scheme adopted by carjackers.

Ladao said the Pampanga Police Provincial Office led by Senior Supt. Oscar Albayalde uncovered the new “modus operandi” of the suspects after a carjacking incident in Barangay Dau, Mabalacat City on Monday.

Supt. Ferdinand Perez, Mabalacat City police chief, said the new scheme of the suspects is to bump slightly the rear portion of the victim’s car. “Of course the immediate reaction of every car owner is to stop and go out to check the damage of the car’s rear portion,” Perez said.

At this point, Perez said, the suspects have now the chance to approach the would-be victim and announce the carjacking.

He said the new scheme is plain and simple that every car owner should take into consideration before stopping the car.

He said this was the fate of Regino Pingol, 58, married, a supervisor at Casino Filipino in Angeles City and a resident of No. 15, Gate 1, Lucinda St., San Sebastian Village, Tarlac City.

The victim was on his way home driving a Hyundai Accent sedan car (TIM-729) at around 2:30 a.m. when three suspects aboard an old-look car without plate number bumped the rear portion of his car.

Pingol immediately pulled over to see the damage of his car’s rear portion but instead he was met by the suspects, one of them holding a 45 cal. pistol, and with a gun drawn, said “Put@ňg !na mo, mga pulis kami.”
Sensing danger, the victim ran away but he was chased by the armed suspect. The victim tried to hide at a jeep terminal in Barangay Dau but was caught by the suspect.

When he was about to be shot by the suspect, the victim struggled to free himself.
He said the suspect fired his gun in the air before leaving with his companions taking along with them the victim’s car and personal belongings.
