DOST assists business productivity through technological intervention

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO–Planning to expand or put up a business and in need of assistance? Enroll in Department of Science and Technology’s (DOST) program called Small Enterprises Technology Upgrading Project or SET-UP.
In a nutrition forum held recently at Holiday Inn, DOST Regional Director Victor Mariano said that this project is aimed to address poverty, which is one of the root causes of malnutrition in the country, and to assist small and medium enterprises.
One notable business which benefited from this project is the renowned Amanda Marine Products in Balanga City, Bataan which sells dried fish, smoked fish, sauteed shrimp paste, and bottled milkfish.
In order to avail the SET-UP funds, the applicant must send a letter of interest to avail the SET-UP assistance together with the requirements to the DOST Regional Director’s Office; and, identify current problems, improvements, and potential technological interventions needed.
If the project is found viable, the DOST Regional Office shall endorse it to the National Program Management Office for evaluation and final approval.
Those who would like to avail of the said project, according to Mariano, may visit DOST Regional Office 3 at Diosdado Macapagal Government Center in Barangay Maimpis, City of San Fernando.
SET-UP is a nationwide strategy to encourage and assist SMEs to adopt technological innovations to improve their operations and thus boost their productivity and competitiveness.
It enables the company to address their technical problems through technology transfer and technological interventions to improve productivity through better product quality, human resources development, cost minimization and waste management, and other operation related activities. ●Joelyn G.
