Partying with Party!

IN THE old days, creating a party was maddening! One had to be ready to fight the war. One had to literally multi-task, be a jack-of-all-trades to wake up in the wee hours of the morning, do the marketing, food preparation, cooking and later on entertaining. Whew! Maybe a bottle of Lipovitan or Cobra could have done the trick, don’t you think?

In the advent of “event organizers” or “events stylists” as they call them, each aspect of “partying” is now being taken cared of by no other than the EXPERTS. This is the trend nowadays, if you still do not succumb to it. Every need to complete a party/celebration is just a click away — just be ready to shell out your hard-earned money. But what the heck, if it will save you from all the trouble, why not? And you can always negotiate with them! 🙂

But, if you insist of making it your way, or would rather not spend another centavo for an event organizer’s service, the following are the components of making a party “a party”! Good luck!

VENUE. In the course of planning a party, first and foremost, you must look for a place suitable for the occasion. Then reserve the place, lock in the date, and eventually start the sending out of invitations.

Here in Pampanga, Grand Palazzo Royale (GPR) has been a favorite for grand events like weddings, anniversaries, balls, etc. Holiday Inn Clark boasts of its numerous function rooms especially of the ballroom at the second floor of the hotel. It is a usual venue for weddings, big conferences or pageants. Chinese restaurants along Balibago, Angeles City like Shanghai Restaurant, Fortune Restaurant have medium-sized function rooms to accommodate not-so-many guests for parties, christenings, etc.

Luk Foo Restaurant in Dau also has a couple of private rooms, and a dining extension inside it to house large number of guests. Yuppies prefer to party in villas specifically in Clark (Holiday Inn, Montevista or Fontana) with overnight stay. From experience, most party venues do not charge rentals when the food for the celebration will be ordered from them (when applicable). And most often than not, venue owners supply table and chairs for the party.

FOOD. Buffet set-up for lunch or dinner has almost always become a hit with celebrations, be it corporate or personal events. Apart from choosing from a wide selection of Filipino, Kapampangan, and international cuisine, buffets can be themed (like Chinese, Japanese) or native Filipino which can serve sisig, fresh lumpiang ubod, bringhe, beef kaldereta, etc. There could also be a salad bar, a dessert booth (with fresh fruits, cakes, cupcakes, buco pandan) and the most lined-up section, the lechon/roast beef area, where a staff carves the meat for the guests. For dessert, Unichef’s famous “fruit torte” is a must have during celebrations. A mix of creamy layered goodness of nuts and fruits, this dessert is a hit! FASHION DESIGNERS/STYLISTS. Jojo Macapinlac, Philip Torres, Mancio Suarez and Manny Ocampo are just some of the fashion designers who contributed to Pampanga’s talent and artistry. They have created gowns and fashion accessories which have been worn by showbiz personalities, and the alta-de-ciudad women of Angeles City and San Fernando. Some of their designs have been publicized locally and abroad. These designers have participated in showcasing their own unique creations via media-covered events in the city such as Miss Earth and Mutya ning Angeles pageants.

Actually, there are more add-ons for creating a party/event. You can be set up by a lights and sounds system and put entertainers (bands, celebrities, comedians, dancers etc.), and the like. You can have extra food booths like ice cream, sherbet corners or cotton candy or I even experienced having a fishball/ kikiam booth and barbecue nook in some of the parties I attended.

Well, there are advantages as well as disadvantages of hiring an event organizer. But it is all up to you. If you have the time, the know-how and the right connections, do it yourself. But if you are running out of time and planning a party has never been your forte, well, get an event planner/organizer like Edna Eufemio or Voltaire Zalamea! 🙂
