Suspected ‘flying voters’ discovered

ANGELES CITY — A candidate for Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) elections filed a petition before the local Commission on Election (Comelec) office here seeking to invalidate the registration of 16 suspected flying voters.

Judy Ann Bringas, a candidate for SK councilor in Barangay Balibago, opposed the registration of the youth applicants since they are not residents of the Barangay Balibago.

She claimed that the teenagers are residents of Pulung Maragul, Malabanias, Dau – Mabalacat City, Lourdes Sur East, and others.

Bringas cited Section 1 of Comelec Resolution 9717, which states that applicants should actually be residing in the barangay for at least six months on election day.

The aim for honest, orderly and peaceful elections will be sacrificed if the Comelec allows the 16 registrants to be included in the list of voters, she said.

City election officer Nomer Lobo told Sun.Star Pampanga the registrations of the 16 youth applicants have not been approved yet.

He said that it was that local Comelec that encouraged Bringas and her group to file the petition. He said their decision will be based on the evidence submitted before the election office.

Rodelio Mamac, Balibago chairman, issued a certification stating that the locations of streets declared by the 16 applicants are not under the territorial jurisdiction of his barangay.
