Man takes nephew hostage

MEXICO — A man took his own nephew hostage with a 12-gauge shotgun owned by a guard from the Pampanga Provincial Jail in Barangay San Jose Matulid here on Tuesday.
The hostage-taker, identified as Noel Quiroz, was later on arrested by elements of the Mexico Municipal Police Station (MPS) after surrendering peacefully.
He took hostage his nephew identified as Daniel De Leon, 18, who resides in Purok 6 of the same barangay. The suspect, according to police, held the shotgun at his nephew’s back for several hours.
Quiroz surrendered after being persuaded by local officials and the police.
Taken from his possession were one Armscor 12-gauge shotgun bearing serial number B1006464 with five live ammunitions.
Further investigation showed the firearm is owned by Gerry Manalansan, guard at Pampanga Provincial Jail.
The hostage-taking was allegedly prompted by a domestic dispute involving the suspect.
Investigation on the incident is still ongoing.
Police are looking into how the suspect was able to get hold of the firearm.
The suspect, together with the firearm, was taken to Mexico MPS for proper disposition.
