Pampanga cops kill 4 gangmen in shootout

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO—Pampanga Gov. Lilia “Nanay Baby” Pineda urged the police on Monday to continue its relentless operations against all forms of criminality following the killing and arrest of alleged members of two notorious gangs in two towns on Sunday.
Pineda congratulated the Pampanga police led by the provincial director, Senior Supt. Edgardo Tinio, but stressed “they should not put their guard down.”
Tinio disclosed that at least five firearms and two grenades were seized from five suspects in operations in Mexico and Minalin towns.
He revealed that four members of the Den-Den Group were killed in Mexico after a brief gun battle after the suspects allegedly fired at policemen manning a checkpoint in Barangay Anao. They were allegedly involved in carjacking, drug trafficking, robbery and extortion and gun-for-hire activities and they operate in Central Luzon.
Tinio identied one of the victims as Gider “Den-Den” de Leon. De Leon was the subject of a warrant of arrest.
Tinio said investigators have yet to establish the identities of the three other fatalities who were killed with de Leon. They were declared dead on arrival in a nearby hospital.
The police in Mexico, led by Supt. Ryan David, chief of police, confiscated two caliber .38 revolvers and two hand grenades from de Leon’s group.
In Minalin, police arrested a member of a gang of burglars.
Zerdan Z. Fortaleza, 35, of Rodriguez (formerly Montalban), Rizal, was arrested after he and his companions allegedly tried to rob the house of a certain Christian David in San Simon, Pampanga.
The police confiscated a snub-nosed caliber .38 revolver, a Colt super .38 revolver and a 9mm Armscor pistol from the scene of the crime.
