Hundreds flock to Senakulo 2012

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO — Hundreds of religious devotees flocked Monday evening to the Arnedo Park at the Capitol to watch the free production of “Senakulo 2012” presented by Alpha-Omega Theatrical Productions.
The reenactment of the Lord’s Passion featured lavish costumes, grand sets, three LED screens around the park and stage, special effects and a cast and crew close to a hundred.
Pampanga is the first of four legs stops of the Manila-based mobile theater, which will move to Bulacan and Manila this Holy Week.
Alpha-Omega Theater producer Lana Serrano said it is their group’s way of bringing to the grassroots the message of Lent and the importance of Jesus Christ’s sacrifice to save mankind.
“We chose Pampanga as the first staging area of Senakulo 2012 because we were inspired of the passion plays in [Barangay San Pedro] Cutud. More importantly, we know that Kapampangans are deeply religious. Our aim is really to bring this play to the grassroots. It’s ecumenical and for everyone to watch for free,” Serrano told Sun.Star Pampanga.
Production costs run into more than a million per staging, she said, but ample benefactors support the production as it moves to its target areas.
“We are thankful a lot of sponsors have been supporting the production. Our cast and crew are mostly out-of-school youth who were trained by PETA (Philippine Educational Theater Association) and whom we give opportunities to explore avenues for good lives for them. Senakulo 2012 is non-commercial and non-political,” she added.
Serrano said Alpha-Omega Theatrical Productions is thankful to Kapampangans for the warm reception to the play.
She also extended her gratitude to Capitol for accommodating them at Arnedo Park.
