Village chief gunned down

CAMP OLIVAS – Two unidentified armed men on board a motorcycle gunned down a village chief in Barangay Timac, San Simon town Tuesday.
Pampanga Police Provincial Director Edgar Tinio identified the fatality as Barangay Timac chairman Luisito Batu, alias Chito.
Tinio said 43-year-old Batu came from his fishpond in Barangay Timac and was walking along the control dike going to his parked motorcycle when he was shot several times by two armed men.
He said the suspects, wearing bonnets and black jackets, shot Batu several times in different parts of the body.
The victim was immediately taken to the ASCOM Hospital in Apalit town where he was declared dead on arrival by attending physicians.
San Simon police recovered at least eight spent shells for M-16 rifle at the scene of the crime.
Tinio said he has created Special Investigation Task Group (SITG) “Batu” headed by Superintendent Narvin Mangune, chief of the Provincial Operations Division, to conduct thorough investigation.
Initial investigation by the SITG though showed that the victim was allegedly involved in a Partisan Armed Group and had several cases such as robbery in band, grave threat and physical injuries but were all dismissed.
The armed men fled towards San Luis town and are now the subject of manhunt operation of San Simon Police.
