Fitness program for the elderly launched

ANGELES CITY — More than a hundred senior citizens here recently benefited from the city’s Physical Fitness Program spearheaded by the Office of the Senior Citizen Affairs (Osca) here.
Dubbed as “Lakas Sigla para kay Lolo’t Lola,” the program is expected to help the elderly city residents regenerate their physical activeness in order to shun illnesses that attack their age bracket.
The activity was held at the SM City Clark, which started with the registration of the participants followed by a short program attended by the mall’s Assistant Manager, Ana Datu.
Prior to the participant’s engagement to the exercise, a blood pressure taking was made to ensure their readiness and resistance to the activity.
The short program was preceded by the 30-minute main routine of calisthenics and stretching led by their fitness instructor.
According to Osca, the fitness program aims to address the need for the senior citizens to regain body activity and to maintain body health through regular physical fitness activities.
Ismael Pamintuan, head of the Osca, said “the program is free to all members of the different senior citizen organizations throughout the city.”
He added that the program will be held all-year round and will be held twice a week, Tuesdays and Thursdays, to sustain and supplement their physical needs.
Mayor Edgardo Pamintuan extended his support and lauded the Osca for catering to the needs of the aged sector in Angeles City.
“Angeles believes that our senior citizens need more attention. I am even more thankful to Osca for taking into consideration the physical and health needs of our elderly Angeleños. The dedication of our city is intensifying their right: it is more than what the Expanded Senior Citizen’s Act wants us to do,” the mayor said.
The fitness program will be regularly held at the covered boardwalk of the mall, 8:30 a.m. to 10 a.m.
Snacks and drinks are also being given free, sponsored by the mall and the City Government.
