10,000 jobs up for grabs in Labor Day fair

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO — The Department of Labor and Employment (Dole) regional office said an estimated 10,000 jobs will be up for grabs in the upcoming Central Luzon Labor Day Job and Livelihood Fair on May 1.
The fair will be held at the Dole regional office located at the government center in Barangay Maimpis, this city.
Regional Director Raymundo Agravante said aside from the thousands of job vacancies, a display of livelihood products of the labor department’s various beneficiaries will also be showcased in venues all over the region.
This year’s 110th Labor Day celebration, themed “Pagtutulungan, Pagbabago, Disenteng Trabaho,” is streamlined with President Benigno Aquino III’s 16 point Social Contract with the Filipino people, as well as the Dole’s mandate in providing full, decent, productive employment for every Filipino, said Agravante.
He added that a total of 360 companies will participate in the job and livelihood fairs all over Central Luzon. Some 254 firms will provide local employment while 106 employers will hire job seekers for overseas employment.
Participating companies from various industries include the Business Processing Outsourcing (BPOs), malls, small and medium enterprises, retail, services, and manufacturing firms from economic zones, among others, said Agravante.
Some of the venues for the simultaneous job and livelihood fairs include the People’s Center in Balanga City, Bataan; SM Malls in Marilao and Baliwag, Bulacan, Pampanga, Clark, Olongapo and Tarlac; Camp Servillano Aquino in Tarlac City; and the Provincial Government centers of Nueva Ecija and Zambales.
Agravante said he is hopeful that the Dole will achieve the target on applicants’ hired on the spot, which will account for at least 15 percent of the total registered applicants.
