Top trader endorses vice guv anew
APALIT — The country’s top businessman, Kapampangan Manny Pangilinan, endorsed on Saturday the candidacy of outgoing Vice Governor “Yeng” Joseller Guiao for the lone first district congressional seat of Pampanga.
Pangilinan was back in Apalit to celebrate his birthday and inspect some of his big projects in the province.

After the Holy Mass for his big day, Pangilinan openly endorsed and manifested support for Guiao as “the only candidate who could make things greater in Angeles City, Mabalacat, and Magalang.”
Pangilinan and San Miguel Corporation honcho Ramon Ang are known backers and friends of the three-termer vice governor and champion coach.
His re-endorsement of Guiao, the first during the Most Outstanding Kapampangan Awards, where he called the vice governor as “Congressman Yeng,” is seen by observers as a confirmation and throw of trust and confidence to the head of the Provincial Board and son of the late Pampanga strongman governor Bren Guiao.
“There could be no other leader to lead Pampanga’s first district but Yeng Guiao. He is a statesman and I strongly believe he will push more for the development of the area much that he is young, brilliant, and steadfast,” Pangilinan said.
For Guiao, Pangilinan’s endorsement is “more good news” after incumbent Representative Carmelo Lazatin backed out of the race, preferring to challenge instead former ally Mayor Edgardo Pamintuan for the mayoralty post in 2013.
“I thank so much MVP (Pangilinan) for his trust and confidence. Like him, I would not want to fail fellow Kapampangans and work for their common good,” he told Sun.Star Pampanga.
Names of other candidates, like former mayor and representative Blueboy Nepomuceno and perennial challenger Chito Bacani, are being floated as Guiao’s opponents next year.
Still, Guiao said he would stick to his plans for 2013, wage a high level campaign, steer off from the Lazatin-Pamintuan issue and just work on his many ongoing programs and projects for the district supported by Pangilinan and private friends.
