‘No segregation, no collection’ policy implemented

PORAC — The “no segregation, no collection” policy in garbage is now strictly implemented in this town.
This was announced by Mayor Condralito Dela Cruz and Vice Mayor Dexter David after they met with Governor Lilia Pineda early morning Monday at Capitol, where it was agreed that the Manuali Transfer Station would be closed this Wednesday.
In a meeting with barangay chiefs and garbage collectors of the town, Dela Cruz and David both said that the “no segregation, no collection” policy will take effect immediately and violators, from the household source to those found dumping garbage indiscriminately along waterways and public places, would be dealt with accordingly based on the provisions of Ecological Solid Waste Management Act 9003.
“Kailangan nating magtulungan upang masugpo na itong problema natin sa basura. Kami sa munisipyo ay ready to provide you with the essentials like sacks, training on segregation including the budget which we will allocate and realign,” Dela Cruz said.
He told Sun.Star Pampanga that the town’s materials recovery facility in Mitla will be open from 8 a.m. to 5 a.m. Mondays to Wednesdays for biodegradable wastes and on Thursdays to Fridays for non-biodegradable garbage.
“This is an initial phase and we would not stop until we address and at least reduce the growing problem on solid waste management. Kailangan lahat kasama at disiplinado upang maging malinis ang Porac,” he added.
David for his part said the Municipal Environment Office will start immediately its town-wide campaign on segregation and proper waste disposal.
“After that, in about two weeks, we would do our rounds and inspection. Kung kailangan na kami mismo ang mag-campaign at magturo sa ating mga kapwa Poraqueño, we will do so para malutas natin ang problemang ito,” he said.
