Typhoon ‘Julian’ now out of Philippines

MANILA (Updated 11:30 a.m.) — Typhoon “Julian” (international name: Bolaven) is now out of the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) and is heading toward the southern islands of Japan, said the state weather bureau on Sunday.

The typhoon, as of 4 a.m. Sunday, was located at 850 kilometers (km) northeast of Basco, Batanes with maximum sustained winds of 175 kilometers per hour (kph) near the center and gustiness of up to 210 kph.
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) forecast it to move northwest at 15 kph and will be 830 km north northeast of Basco, Batanes by Sunday afternoon.
The weather bureau said, however, that even if Julian is outside the country, it will continue to enhance the southwest monsoon that will bring light to moderate rains over the western section of the Philippines.
Pagasa said the southwest monsoon is still affecting Luzon and Western Visayas. Mostly cloudy with scattered rainshowers and thunderstorms becoming widespread rains will still prevail over the western section of Luzon.
The rest of the country will be partly cloudy to cloudy with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms.
Moderate to strong winds blowing from the southwest will prevail over Luzon and Visayas.
The coastal waters throughout the archipelago will be moderate to rough.

Pagasa also said that a strong gale force wind is expected to affect the seaboards of Luzon.
