136 families still housed at Tent City

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO — Some evacuees still housed in the “Tent City” in Barangay San Juan here have nowhere to go, according to a disaster official.
Nelson Aquino, an employee of the City Hall, said some residents from the villages of San Pedro Cutud and San Nicolas stay in evacuation centers because their houses were swept away by rampaging floodwaters induced by the monsoon rains last August.
Aquino said some 136 families or 406 individuals are presently encamped at Tent City.
Jorge Gumba, general manager of the City of San Fernando Water District who went to the Tent City on Thursday, was met by Aquino after they inspected the water being used by the evacuees.
According to Gumba, the tents — or “shelter boxes” — used by the evacuees were provided by the South Western Rotary Club of Pampanga, worth P42,000 each.
Gumba also said that Louie Clemente, housing and regulatory officer of the City Hall, told him the evacuees will stay in Tent City until the tail dike is finished.
Some 200 meters of the tail dike breached on August 7, when heavy rains hit the low-lying communities of in this city, Sto. Tomas and Minalin towns.
Disaster officials warned that typhoons during the “ber” months are strong and could bring heavy rains that can be disastrous.
