Pamintuan is Top 8 World Mayor

ANGELES CITY – Mayor Edgardo Pamintuan now joins the ranks of the best mayors around the globe as he was ranked eighth among the top 10 awardees for the 2012 World Mayor Prize.
The City Mayors Foundation, organizers of the World Mayor Project, came out with the top 10 awardees on Tuesday who were judged based primarily by the arguments and persuasiveness of testimonials bestowed upon the chosen mayors.
The total number of votes cast was only considered as a secondary factor as, according to the World Mayor website, “basing judgment on numbers alone would unfairly disadvantage mayors from smaller towns.”
Despite its relatively small size against huge cities like Bilbao, Spain; El Paso, Texas; and Quebec City in Canada, the city mayor from Angeles still managed to acquire several nominations and testimonies from voters in the city and the country as well.
In an interview, Pamintuan said he was thankful of all the support from all the Angeleños and local government employees who helped him take the eighth place.
“I am truly grateful of all the hard work that the City Government employees and officials have shown. To all the city councilors headed by Vice Mayor Vicky Vega-Cabigting, department, office and program heads, barangay chief executives and kagawads (councilors), I couldn’t have achieved such an award without your support,” he said.
Pamintuan is the only mayor from the Philippines to join the awardees, and is one out of three in Asia.
According to World Mayor’s website, Pamintuan was chosen for his “for specific achievements, including being the first mayor to build a city college providing low-cost education; the planting of 200,000 trees with help from volunteers, which apparently will help avoid flooding; the cleaning of major drainages and for modernizing the city hospital, including installing dialysis facilities.”

City of San Fernando Mayor Oscar Rodriguez, who is also the national president of the League of Cities of the Philippines (LCP), congratulated Pamintuan.
“We are happy for Mayor Pamintuan’s inclusion in top ten World Mayor Prize. Another feather in the cap of Kapampangans and Filipinos,” Rodriguez said.
One testimonial from Gerald M. in Angeles City lauded Pamintuan for his firm commitment to serving the public.
“His passion to public service has contributed to the betterment of our city. He knows the needs of his fellow men and he has never failed to provide for all these needs,” states the testimony.
Carla, also from Angeles City, then complements this by citing Pamintuan’s dedication to developing healthcare through the 19 dialysis machines in the city’s Renal Care Unit.
“Mayor Edgardo ‘ed’ Pamintuan had help the city to regain its natural beauty, he open a lot of opportunity for the locals to have business and working job for other locals as well. When it comes to health, he is the one responsible for a less cost dialysis center for our less fortunate locals now they have their dialysis in a lower cost price… [sic]” Carla said.
Another testimony from Jonel G. praised Pamintuan for the establishment of the City College of Angeles.
“Edgardo Pamintuan was the mayor of my choice because finally after graduating to high school 6yrs ago and wanting to go to college to continue my study only this mayor granted my wish and the wish of thousands poor young talented, brave and intelligent Angeleños who aimed to finish their studies… [sic]” Jonel said.
Several testimonies from the website also came outside Angeles City and outside the Philippines.
