Emirates Airline to start Dubai flights from Clark
CLARK FREEPORT–Dubai-based Emirates Airline (EA) announced on Monday that it will begin daily flights from Clark International Airport in October 2013.
In a statement, EA said it will begin non-stop flights from Clark to Dubai from October 1, 2013.
Tim Clark, president of EA, said there had been a growing demand since they started flights from Manila to Dubai in 1990.
“The launch of flights between Clark International Airport and Dubai will offer our passengers the flexibility of choosing from two destinations in the Philippines,” Clark said.
“I would like to extend Emirates’ thanks to the Government of the Philippines and the Civil Aviation and Clark Authority that have made the start of this service possible, we look forward to building on our relationship with the country and the enhancement of key tourism and trade links between the Philippines and the UAE, and beyond to our global network,” Clark added.
Victor Jose Luciano, president and chief executive officer of Clark International Airport Corporation, had several discussions with EA in the past few months before the airline opened flights to Clark.
“Clark now would be connected to 132 destinations in six continents when Emirates will start flying by third quarter of this year,” Luciano said.
Luciano travelled to Dubai last week to meet with senior officials of Emirates and finalize the agreement to fly to Clark.
“The selection of Clark as a destination by Emirates is a giant leap forward for Clark considering that hundreds of cities all over the world had been inviting Emirates to fly to their airports,” said Luciano.
“Clark will endeavour to attract more Europeans and Arabs to visit the Philippines. The impact to tourism and two-way trade will be very positive for the country,” according to Luciano.
Luciano also stressed that the Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) mostly coming from Central and Northern Luzon will greatly benefit from the Emirates flights out of the Clark airport.
“Our OFWs can now take their flights to the Middle East via Clark airport.”
Central Luzon, the region that houses CIA, has the largest number of overseas Filipino population in the Middle East.
Operated by a two-class Boeing 777-300ER, EK338 will depart Dubai at 0400hrs and arrive at Clark International Airport at 1640hrs. The return flight, EK339 will depart at 1835hrs and arrive at Dubai International Airport at 2305hrs.
Emirates SkyCargo will also be able to provide more than 160 tons of additional cargo hold capacity each way per week.
Emirates Holidays, the airline’s tour operating arm, offers holidays to the Philippines, with packages that highlight attractions in Manila, Cebu, Palawan, Boracay, Marinduque and Lagen Islands.●Marna Dagumgoy – Del Rosario
