Dad protecting son shot dead

CAMP OLIVAS — A 54-year-old man was killed after he tried to protect his son from a gunman at St. Jude Village, Barangay Dolores, City of San Fernando, on Tuesday.

The fatality was identified as Nerio Sarzuela, 54, of St. Jude Village, who suffered gunshot wounds in the body. He died while undergoing treatment at the San Fernandino Hospital.

The suspect, identified as Emilio Avenido, 52, of Barangay Magliman, City of San Fernando, arrived in front of the house of Sarzuela and upon seeing Hener Sarzuela, 27, angrily poked a gun at him.

Police said Hener, son of the victim, went inside their house and informed his father about the incident.

The father took a bolo and confronted the suspect, the report said.

However, the suspect shot the father several times. Despite his wounds, he managed to fight the assailants.

The suspect fled while the father was taken to the said hospital, Pagkalinawan said.

Community Police Action Center in Barangay Dolores recovered four spent shells for Mangum caliber .22 (paltik) and four ammunition of unknown caliber in front of the house of the victims. (Ric Sapnu)
