1,468 hired on the spot in Pampanga job fairs

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO–A total of 1,468 job applicants were hired on the spot during the May 1 jobs fair held simultaneously at SM Pampanga, SM Clark and SM San Fernando Downtown while some 4,000 are still completing the required documents for their eventual employment.

Luningning Vergara, manager of Provincial Employment Service Office (PESO), said that the job fair was spearheaded by the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), PESO and the three SM malls in Pampanga.

Vergara said these “successful” job applicants were selected from among the 7,803 job applicants who registered during the job fair in the three separate venues.

Vergara disclosed that SM Clark has registered the most number of registrants with almost 4,000 applicants, followed by SM Pampanga with more than 2,000 and SM Downtown with less than 1,000.

Vergara said the job fair is considered “successful” compared to previous years as it has the most number of applicants who were hired on the spot.

Some of the participating companies were call centers, electronics business and sewing firms.

Governor Lilia “Nanay” G. Pineda, who graced the jobs fair at SM Pampanga, said that job generation plays a pivotal role in poverty alleviation program of her administration as it answers the most basic needs of the Kapampangan families–food, shelter and education.

She expressed gratitude to the participating companies who gave job opportunities particularly to the new graduates who are looking for a descent employment after four years in college.

“We need more jobs and we are very fortunate that many investors have opened their doors of opportunity for the jobless Kapampangans,” the governor said.

The governor stressed that if all Kapampangans are employed or self employed, the province will reach its objective of having healthy communities with healthy families who enjoy the socio-economic opportunities provided by the national and local governments. ● Elaine Mercado
